We had an exciting week this week at Camberwell Sharks with the debut of another junior Shark on the AFL scene. Matthew Owies kicked the footy for Sharks from 2007-2010 before focusing on his basketball career having been selected in his first Australian team (1). After representing Australia in a number of age groups, Owies travelled to the USA in 2016 after he secured a four-year athletic scholarship at the University of Hawaii. During his stint he played a total of 27 games averaging 11.6 minutes off the bench, he then made a move over to the mainland to line up with Seattle University (2).
Owies recently moved back to Australia and has worked his way into the line-up on the back of his goal kicking form at reserves level at Carlton. He has kicked 21 goals from 10 games, with 11 of those coming in the last four matches (3).
Camberwell Sharks have had quite a number of juniors who have represented our game on the AFL stage (check them all out here). Currently though, we have eight players out there who threw on the Sharks jumper at Shark Park each Sunday morning.
