Congratulations to all the Sharks players who representative the YJFL in the recent Metro Junior Championships or the U13 Interleague Teams.  From all reports the YJFL are very proud of everybody’s efforts and for the high quality football and sportsmanship presented over the event.

Under 13 Boys

The 2 matches were played in great spirit and the boys enjoyed being introduced to the stepped up pace of representative football. The YJFL boys proved too strong on the day, taking home both shields.

Division 1:

Patrick Moore

Lachie Harker

Hunter Warren

Ari Azzopardi

The Yarra JFL Boys 1 (124) beat South Metro JFL Boys 1 (18). From the Sharks, Ari Azzopardi kicked 2 goals and was voted amongst the best on ground. Lachie Harker (1 goal), Pat Moore and Hunter Warren also played very well.

Paddy’s recount, “It was beautiful weather for footy, and both teams were physical early, but a taller, faster and more skilful YJFL team, scored 25 points in the first quarter.  The team kept getting better, working fantastically as a team, to finish with a resounding win 124 – 18 to take home the Shield! Coach Jono Black prepared the team well during the training sessions in the lead up to the game.

Division 2:

Isaac Ellwood

Sam Stone

Nicholas Graves

The Yarra JFL Boys 2 (106) beat South Metro JFL Boys 2 (21). From the Sharks, Sam Stone kicked 4 goals and was voted amongst the best on ground. Isaac Ellwood and Nic Graves also played very well.

Camberwell Sharks were well represented in the u/13 YJFL Rep Division 2 with Isaac Ellwood, Nic Graves and Sam Stone featuring over the Queen’s Birthday weekend. All three players played strongly in their match against Southern Metro League with Sam being a strong target in the forward line kicking four goals, Nic taking several intercept marks sweeping across the half back line and playing his customary general role back there, while Isaac’s use of ball and run playing midfield provided plenty of forward entries from his many possessions.

Well done to the boys, they took home the Shield for this division and the entire Rep program allowed the boys to continue their development in the game they love.

Under 13 Girls (Division 2)

Cate Beaton

Well done to Cate Beaton, who had a wonderful time and really enjoyed the experience.  Cate loved meeting new female footy players and playing at a higher level and would like to extend a thanks to the Sharks for their support.

Under 14 Boys

U14 Horsey play in Gold but playing in the Metro Junior Championships took the skill level, physicality and pressure to a whole new level.  From playing at night under lights in pouring rain to playing in sunshine and wind, the boys were put to the test in each of the three games.  Sam and Zane showed great commitment training twice a week since April.  An added benefit to representing the YJFL is the friendships made with boys that are either opposition players during the season or play in different divisions.

Sam Nehme (Division 1) Team A

The U14.1s won 2 games and lost 1 game – as did Northern and South Metro – but unfortunately, we missed out on a Grand Final spot by percentage.  Sam captained the team and won the Player of the Match medal in the first game against SMJFC.

Sam (U14.1) by coach Joe Mezgec: Sam was an asset to the Yarra U14 Vic Metro Program. He showed many leadership qualities which earnt him being named as captain of the squad and was a delight to coach.  Sam’s role was mainly as a midfielder and he performed exceptionally well. His understanding of set ups and structures was outstanding and his ability to work defensively as much as offensively was fantastic.  Sam’s ability to sum up situations, especially under pressure, and make good decisions was incredible. His raking left foot and quick hands were also a highlight.  Sam also built a great comradery with the whole group, players and coaches included. I’m sure that we will be seeing great things of Sam in the future.

Zane Harrington (Division 1) Team B

Grand Final Saturday 30th for the Grand Final against South Metro at Eltham Central Park

The U14.2s go into the Grand Final undefeated, having won each of their 3 games comfortably.

Zane (U14.2) by coach Darren Moulder: Zane is a tall forward who takes a strong mark and kicks well. He likes moving into the ruck where he has a big physical presence bringing fellow teammates into the game.

Under 15 Girls (Division 1)

Caitlin Matthews

Caitlin had the most awesome time representing the YJFL for the first time. She was challenged by the higher standard and speed of the game and thrived on the competitiveness of the contest. She improved greatly over the 3 games and looks forward to bringing some new skills and greater intensity to her club footy.

Under 15 Girls (Division 2)

Jorja Jackson

Mia Danaher

The Shark girls were well represented in the under 15’s YJFL team and certainly did their coach, parents and football club proud with their commitment to the entire experience. The team played 3 hard fought matches, with Game one played under lights in sub artic conditions in Panton Hills against tough and physical Northern Football League. In a thrilling finale the girls ended up drawing their first match. Game 2 was played at Koonung Park against the Western Districts Football League’s team, with our girls going down by 12 points at the final siren.  Jorja Jackson was almost best on ground providing huge run and carry through the mid field and racking up the most tackles and hard ball gets for our team. Game 3 played on Monday at as a curtain raiser for the boys team, the girls certainly didn’t hold back but unfortunately were beaten by a stronger Essendon Districts team.  Both Mia and Jorja should be really proud as they were the 2 youngest in the squad of 46 girls.

Well done ladies amazing effort!!!!

The rain stopped and the people came - June Monthly Medal Night!
